Whitefish
The resort town, priced like one
The ski hill is up the road, the downtown stays open late, and in July and in March the sidewalks belong to visitors.
The Flathead Beacon put the February median sale here near $1.3 million, roughly twice Kalispell's. RealtyTrac's July median sold is $822,300. Both are the same small market: a handful of lakefront closings move the month. You are paying for the hill, the downtown and the lake, in about that order.
It is also a wildland-urban interface town. Houses sit in the trees on steep ground, and the city asks owners to keep defensible space around them. Ask when the lot was last thinned before you fall in love with the trees.
